3-bedroom Villas in Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia

North west of Bali’s international airport, coastal Seminyak is Bali’s established late-night party land, laying claim to the highest concentration of independent fine-dining restaurants and beach clubs on the island, including Ku Dé Ta, Potato Head, Cocoon, La Lucciola, Sarong, Métis and Sardine. Hip and happening Seminyak also boasts a plethora of chic cocktail bars, sumptuous spas and fashionable boutiques.

A world-class playground for the rich, the famous and the bon vivants, the vibrant nightlife and luxurious accommodation in Seminyak draws a sophisticated crowd of ‘beautiful people’, especially Europeans. Seminyak Beach is the place where local and expat communities gather every evening at sunset.

Seminyak is Bali’s have-it-all holiday destination for a relaxed beachside escape with easy access to the many tourist attractions around the island. Head south for Asia’s #1 water park, Waterbom, or hit the links at the scenic New Kuta Golf Club in the Bukit. North of Seminyak, enjoy the sporting facilities at Finns Recreation Club (for which many holiday villas in the area include guest membership), offering social and leisure amenities, including a state-of-the art gym, a 25m swimming pool and a tennis and squash centre. For horse lovers, three riding stables are located at nearby Canggu – Kuda P, Tarukan, and Bali Equestrian Centre.

Villa Adasa

Villa Adasa

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

I’m moving in! Put it another way, I don’t want to leave Villa Adasa, ever. Within moments of our arrival, the sounds of the gamelan gave way to early Dylan rasping from the Sonos sound system. How did they KNOW he’s this reviewer’s all-time favourite? Mind-reading was clearly second nature for Villa Adasa’s staff, who seemed to know what we wanted before we did, but were just as adept at giving us complete privacy when that was called for too. While this is a great villa for a family as well as for friends/couples sharing, Villa Adasa manages to achieve a rare intimacy that would make it equally appealing to a couple looking to splurge on space. Villa Adasa delights 24/7. Daytime, we were faced with the taxing decision of whether to dive into an ocean of colourful cushions carpeting the double bale (gazebo), relax on the loungers by the pool, strip to bare essentials on the sun-deck above, or remain supine on the myriad sofas in the living pavilion. At sundown it was no contest; the best place to soak up Bali’s famous purple-hued sunset was from the loveseat on the master bedroom loggia. The night-time atmosphere at Villa Adasa is charming, thanks to its clever ambient lighting and comfortable living area. So dining presented us with an equally weighty dilemma: Do we select from the excellent menu and have our accomplished villa chef whip up a five-course meal or seafood barbecue for us, or do we wander out and take our pick from the many world-class restaurants within moments of the villa? We loved hanging out in the huge master bedroom suite and enjoyed the best night’s sleep thanks to a fabulously comfy bed, luxury goose-down duvet and pillows and high thread-count cotton sateen bed linen. The Sonos music system was swish, and being able to control it from our phone and laptop was pretty cool. And it was heaven having such a wonderful library of coffee table books and glossy magazines to browse. All in all, staying here was like breathing pure oxygen — I was on a permanent health-inducing ‘high’ throughout our all-too-short-stay.

Casa Brio

Casa Brio

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

The beautifully and professionally designed Casa Brio has all the necessary prerequisites that make for top-end Bali holiday accommodation. The staff are great and work to a very high standard, the rooms are large and very comfortable and the bathrooms grand; there’s a lovely long pool and the location is great for a walk to the beach or to take advantage of the ever increasing restaurant and beach club scene in the Petitenget area of Seminyak. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk down to the sands to admire the sunset over a couple of cold beers.

Des Indes II

Des Indes II

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

Des Indes Villa II is a hidden gem!  From the moment the bright red iron-studded entrance door swung open to reveal a row of saffron-robed stone-carved monks standing sentinel across the entrance pond, we were enchanted.  The clever layout makes the most of the space – land is at a premium in this uber-elite part of Seminyak, and we liked the way both (surprisingly large) bedroom suites were separated by the swimming pool, giving extra privacy.  The owners have a fine eye for Asian antiques and artefacts, and we loved the blend of heritage romance and modern luxury… where else can you take a bath surrounded by Chinese porcelain and Asian artefacts!

Favourite places to hang out? The huge four-poster bed swathed in mosquito netting, and the elegant marble-topped breakfast table by the pool. The staff greeted us with garlands of Frangipani flowers and refreshing ice-cold towels, and a special mention must go to the chef; his beautifully cooked Barramundi dinner made me so happy we chose to eat in rather than stroll down to La Lucciola!  We were one couple staying, and think this would be a rather lovely honeymoon spot; but imagine two couples or a family with two kids would be equally happy here.

Eshara I

Eshara I

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

Eshara works as well as an eight (or five) bedroom residence as it does as three smaller individual villas.  With all the connecting walls hidden away it certainly feels open and spacious.  The pools do dominate the gardens, leaving relatively small patches of open lawn, however there is plenty of deck space with loungers and outdoor seating.  We would certainly recommend the combined villas for a group of up to 16 who want to be centrally located.  You do not get more ‘in town’ than this.

All the bedrooms are well designed with modern ensuite bathrooms and plenty of storage, and most open out onto the pleasant gardens. Blackout curtains and TVs are nice touches.

During our visit, the staff looked after us really well with smiling service and a willingness to please that made us feel very comfortable.

Villa Joss

Villa Joss

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

We knew we’d arrived in Batubelig village when we drove through the traditional gates along the typical (rather potholed!) Balinese village road. Entering Villa Joss was like entering a sanctuary. We were met with a welcome drink and refreshing cool towels. First impressions were of a modern and stylish take on traditional Balinese living – separate pavilions based around a family-friendly pool with wide walk-in steps that are excellent for those needing a gentle entry to the water, or for littlies to play on. Talking of playing, there are plenty of pool toys for the whole family (although you might want to bring your own DVD’s/CD’s, as the film and music library isn’t quite there yet). Splashes of colour throughout, added by the various art works and soft furnishings, made us feel very much at home. We particularly liked the bright and very bold pink and red bedroom. The owner obviously has an eye for detail as there are some very good examples of Bali’s excellent craftsmanship, from the bedroom furniture and stone carvings in the bathrooms to the vaulted teak ceilings in the lounge area. Our evening meal was very tasty Indonesian fare all served with a smile by the charming villa staff. Villa Joss is great for families (baby cot available) or groups of friends. Businessmen might consider it for small conferences as there's free WiFi and a large work space in the media room.

Kalimaya III

Kalimaya III

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

When we first opened the gilded Balinese doors onto Villa Kalimaya III’s garden, we thought we’d come to the wrong place – surely it was too big to be only a three-bedroom villa?  The element of surprise was maintained throughout our visit, as we discovered not one but two living rooms as well as a separate dining room and a second dining area on the upstairs terrace – an extraordinary amount of space, especially in such a hip Seminyak hotspot.

This is a really well designed, well-furnished villa with a lot of extra details to ensure a comfortable, cossetted stay. With the large pool, jacuzzi and infra-red sauna to frolic in (plus four TVs and DVD players), there was plenty to keep us occupied without making use of the complimentary Canggu Club membership.  And when we did step beyond the villa walls, we were on the beach or in Seminyak’s best restaurants and boutiques within minutes.

This is the perfect place for a couple, three couples or a family of six who want to be sociable and yet still be able to get away from each other.  The cook, butlers and housekeepers – all charming and helpful – divide their time between this and the other three Kalimaya villas along the same quiet lane.  We considered this a bonus as it means guests benefit from a professional team, but privacy is not compromised by their continued presence – and it means that self-catering is a personal choice, not a prerequisite.

The room configuration is good for families as one of the two upstairs bedrooms has twin beds – perfect for the kids – while the downstairs bedroom will suit the grandparents (or older kids returning from a night on the town).

Lakshmi Villas - Ubud

Lakshmi Villas - Ubud

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

After a ridiculously early-morning four-hour flight from Thailand we were a bit exhausted when we arrived at Villa Ubud, so how nice was it to find our accommodation so cool, shady and private. Our butler informed us that he was there to cater to our every whim, and just to call him if we needed anything, so after preparing an ice bucket and a couple of champagne flutes (for the duty frees!) he discreetly slipped away leaving us to our own devices. At dinner time he was the perfect professional, adding a noble tinge to our humble but elegantly prepared and presented Balinese feast, but somehow he still kept that casual Bali air, and we loved him for that – the stuff that gratuities were made for. We commented on how perfect the location was for our needs as we ambled down to the beach at sunset for a couple of cold beers.

The Layar - Villa 7 (3BR)

The Layar - Villa 7 (3BR)

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

We’d done our research and thought we had realistic notions about where we were going, but The Layar surpassed all our expectations.  The villas’ design works on so many levels:  it’s intriguingly different and totally tropical, but what we hadn’t anticipated was just how ‘at home’ we would feel as soon as we crossed the stepping stones into the gorgeous garden and saw the sweep of roof, from under which the living and dining areas beckoned.

The villas are well equipped with satellite channel TVs, sound systems and a good range of kitchen utensils (in the unlikely event that you might chose to self-cater), while bedrooms and bathrooms – all of which are generously sized – are fitted with quality furnishings and adorned with interesting Indonesian art and artefacts.

And there’s plenty to keep all ages and interests entertained.  The gardens, furnished decks, pools and (in all but the one-bed villas) jacuzzis, coupled with TV areas, lounge and dining spaces will be enough for some, but lazy days can be punctuated with in-villa spa treatments carried out by The Layar’s professional therapists and delicious barbecue dinners cooked in the gardens of your own private oasis.  When we did finally tear ourselves away from our new ‘home’ we enjoyed venturing out to explore the shops, restaurants and cafes of Seminyak, all of which were easy to reach on foot.  Cocktails on the beach at La Lucciola, followed by an excellent dinner at ‘The Junction’ made a great end to the day.
