Kid Friendly Villas

Happy kids make for a happy holiday. These villas are packed with things for the kids to do or have plenty of attractions in the local area. Whether it is Wii or WiFi, pool (snooker) or pool (swimming), it's boards rather than bored. We can’t guarantee that every property is 100% ‘kid safe’, but we can guarantee that there will be plenty to keep them entertained.

Villa Sapna

Villa Sapna

Thailand » Phuket » Cape Yamu

Villa Sapna really bowled us over with its amazing east-coast setting and sublime design.  Every sense-pleasing thing we could dream of in a tropical holiday villa was to be found here: sunrise views, sunset views, sea views … yes!  Add to that captivating paintings by celebrated Asian artists, modern architecture with a touch of Thai elegance, vibrant living areas that fully open to lush gardens, a 20-metre swimming pool, and attentive staff.  And a gym.  And a private chef who creates heavenly Thai tastes.  And for ease of access, a lift.  It’s hard to describe how uplifting it feels to be here, the quality of the tropical light and the vivid skies and the total serenity – just book it and see for yourself!

We also thought that, with its balance of bedrooms and living rooms arranged across two separate pavilions, the villa’s layout was ideal for extended families or two families seeking added privacy.  We’re also partial to the Cape Yamu area of Phuket as we prefer to avoid the tourist crowds.  Though it’s becoming something of an enclave for ultra-luxury villas and resorts, much of the area is still swathed in native jungle and plantations, with fishing and farming the main activities of the local people.

Satin Doll

Satin Doll

Sri Lanka » South Coast » Talpe

Satin Doll is a very well balanced villa; spotless, comfortable bedrooms, plenty of living space and a lovely, private front garden with sea views. The villa’s manager Thushara was also extremely eager to please and dealt with any issues that arose, quickly and discreetly. The contemporary artwork scattered around the villa, including the potentially authentic ‘Rage – The Flower Thrower’ Banksy by the dining area (the owner has no clue who painted it!) – also caught our eye, as did the beautifully soft palm-motif Indian bedspreads and cushions that were handpicked by the owners.

The villa has its own chef, and for lunch we ate gazpacho soup and tuna nicoise salad (our request; something light) and for dinner the staff prepared a house speciality, fish biryani, with brinjol pickle and salad. The suggestion menu was enticing, and included crispy pork belly, Thai curry, seafood options, and whole roast chicken. All food and drinks are charged at cost price (plus a 20% mark up), or you could opt to pay LKR 2,500 (around $20) per adult per meal (half price for kids). Breakfast is included in the rate.

Sava Beach Villas - Villa Tievoli

Sava Beach Villas - Villa Tievoli

Thailand » Phuket » Natai Beach

With its white-sand beach, sea breezes, open design and wealth of facilities for entertainment and unwinding, Villa Tievoli is one of the most uplifting villas we’ve visited.  Natai Beach is gaining a reputation as an exclusive area for discerning travellers seeking both pampering and peace, and Tievoli at Sava certainly delivers on these fronts, especially with its own spa facilities and two professional spa therapists in-house!  Those who prefer a more modern style will appreciate Tievoli’s design, which uses both industrial and natural materials to bring life and a sense of openness to every room.

With the large pool lined with several sun beds, sofas and cute ‘apple’ loveseats, new villa guests might think they have arrived at a hotel – it’s just so spacious and elaborately furnished both inside and out. Tievoli was designed as an ideal venue to hold special events; we were told it has already hosted some great weddings and that the management company can liaise with local event planners to help cater and service larger events.

With its seven bedrooms arranged in two separate wings, the villa’s ideally laid out for two families or groups wanting to share a holiday without imposing too much upon one another.  Although there’s plenty of peace and privacy here, Tievoli is part of a seven-villa estate so it lacks the feel of a total hideaway.  But with an empty, 10-kilometre-long beach at your doorstep and mostly rural surrounds, a tranquil stay is all but assured here.  Those hoping for a peek into Thailand’s more traditional life don’t have to travel far to find it.  Though our stay was too brief to try this ourselves, we were told that other guests have delighted in wandering down the beach to meet the local fishermen and buy their day’s catch fresh off the boat!

Sava Beach Villas - Villa Amarelo

Sava Beach Villas - Villa Amarelo

Thailand » Phuket » Natai Beach

Bold and bright, Villa Amarelo has a futuristic design, yet the ambiance is cheerful, relaxed, and feels just right for the tropical setting. It’s easy to settle in, whip open the heavy glass doors and let the sea breezes flow as generously as the champagne that you’ll crack open to celebrate arriving at one of Thailand’s most beautiful, peaceful beaches. The staff are equally as cheerful, and the maid always seemed to magically arrive just when a glass needed filling or a towel sourced. Though families are welcome, the sophisticated Sava leans more towards groups of adults – more hen party hang-out than mother hens’ nest. We didn’t party during our stay (we had work to do!) but with the elaborate entertainment system, barbecue facilities, the chef and the divine open layout, a garden soiree is a must-do here. The outdoor options are many, too, with surfboards, football and volleyball equipment available. We were told that all the holiday villas in this estate have played host to some great events and weddings, and the management company can liaise with local event planners to help with larger events needing more staff and services.

With its six bedrooms arranged in two separate wings, the villa’s ideally laid out for two families or groups wanting to share a holiday without being on top of one another. Although there’s plenty of privacy here, and peace and quiet abound in large doses, the villa is part of an estate so it lacks the feel of a total hideaway. Yet under the starlit tropical sky, cocktail in hand, with only the lapping waves disturbing the silence, it felt as though we had the whole beach, indeed the whole world, all to ourselves. Bliss.

Sava Beach Villas - Villa Roxo

Sava Beach Villas - Villa Roxo

Thailand » Phuket » Natai Beach

Villa Roxo’s design has a modern edge, yet its ambiance is cheerful, relaxed, and feels just right for the tropical setting.  It’s easy to settle in, slide open the heavy glass doors and let the sea breezes flow as generously as the champagne you’ll crack open to celebrate arriving at one of Thailand’s most beautiful, peaceful beaches.  The staff are equally as cheerful, and the maid always seemed to magically arrive just when a glass needed filling or a towel sourced.  Though families are welcome, the sophisticated Sava leans more towards groups of adults – more ‘hen party’ hang-out than nest for mother hens.  We didn’t party during our stay (we had work to do!) but with the chef and the divine open layout, a barbecue poolside soiree is a must-do here.  There’s very little to fault with this villa, though, if we really have to be picky, being in the second tier of the estate means it takes that extra few seconds to reach the beach, and views are partially blocked by the villas in the front row.  Although there’s plenty of privacy here, and peace and quiet abound in large doses, Roxo is part of an estate so it lacks the feel of a total hideaway.  While we loved the sunny days, our favourite time was the evening, just after sunset.  Sipping a glass of wine while soaking our feet in the pool, gazing up at the sparkling night sky to the sound of the waves – ahh, those tranquil tropical nights are heavenly!
