Ambassador’s House is made up of two buildings. The first, to the front of the property, is home to a vast open-sided living room with soaring timber roof and pair of huge mirrors that further enhance the proportions of the room. An aqua-blue sofa and shelves brimming with books, artwork and antiques provide ambiance and make it an ideal space for receiving guests or simply curling up with a good book. To the rear, a pathway leads through graceful archways into a courtyard scattered with potted palms. Beyond this lies the second building, home to the five bedrooms, the swimming pool and further living and dining space.

On the ground floor of this second building is the formal dining room with table for ten and a western style kitchen with black granite worktops. Just beyond the dining room is an intimate TV room with wide-screen satellite TV and brightly upholstered corner sofa looking out over the terrace and elongated lap pool.

Three double bedrooms open onto the pillared walkway beside the pool. Designed similarly, each of these rooms has a four-poster king-size bed draped in mosquito netting, arched louvered doors and (in common with all five bedrooms) a contemporary terrazzo-finished ensuite – these three fitted with showers.

From the dining room a timber staircase leads up to two more bedrooms on the first floor, which work well as a family suite. With a four-poster king-size bed, a private living area leading to the roof terrace and a dreamy bathroom with twin showers, twin washbasins and a tub, the master suite is the most luxurious of the five bedrooms. Next door is a twin room, which also opens onto the roof terrace and features an attached bathroom with shower. All bedrooms are air conditioned.

The shaded dual-level roof terrace, furnished with loungers, is connected to the lap pool via a second staircase. There’s a guest washroom up here and an area furnished with built-in cushioned seats.
