Set within a delightful walled garden with entry across a lotus pond, Villa Kalimaya IV stands before a large swimming pool edged with bamboo and Travellers’ Palms.

A veranda runs the full length of the villa, providing an airy entrance to the open-plan living area, with comfortable upholstered chaise longue and ottomans arranged around a coffee table set before a 42-inch TV.  To one side a table for six sits under a stately chandelier, backed by an illuminated panel of intricately carved limestone topped with black marble that serves as a bar counter for the well-equipped kitchen.  Bi-fold doors can open fully to create breezy indoor/outdoor living, or be closed to seal the area for air-conditioned comfort.  At the far end of the living room, and also opening onto the shady veranda, is a guest bedroom with garden bathroom.

Teakwood stairs lead up to a second living and entertainment area with another 42-inch TV and a sofa-bed – useful for extra guests.  On either side are two bedroom suites – one with a king-size bed, the other with twins (convertible to king); both light-filled rooms with vaulted teakwood-lined ceilings.  Both rooms open directly onto a large bougainvillea-edged terrace where a parasol-shaded teakwood table provides the perfect spot for a private breakfast or sunset cocktails.

All three bedrooms have a 26-inch TV with satellite channels, DVD player, iPod dock and mini-bar fridge.  There’s generous wardrobe space in the ensuite bathrooms – enormous air-conditioned marble-tiled spaces with bathtub, double vanity and rain shower.

There’s more lounging space outside in the garden.  A cushion-covered alang-alang thatched balé stands at the end of the 12 x 4m swimming pool, next to the infra-red sauna for four, and a deck wrapping round the jacuzzi bears four red-cushioned sun loungers clustered under two matching parasols.
