Bo Phut
Slouching in front of the TV with the French windows open onto the terrace, or standing under the rain shower gazing down at the beaches in the distance, the stunning views and surroundings at Baan Ling Noi have a constant and positive influence. Being this high up has its
advantages, not least because you feel completely removed from the world below, and the sheer sense of space easily compensates for any lack of beachside ambience. Although sharing with two other couples, we were surprised how easy it was to spend time alone. The 10-seater sofa in the pool pavilion quickly became the meeting point, providing the perfect excuse to stay in your swimming gear all day. From there people would drift off to swim, read, snooze, watch a film, then come back to chat and enjoy the views. The helpful staff soon caught on to this routine and kept the fridge in the pavilion well-stocked. We even had lunch served there a few times when it seemed too much of a strain to move up to the dining room. The stairs can be a little wearing, but in the evenings the upper terrace is well worth the climb. The sunset and night views over Bo Phut to the islands are priceless and who could say no to super-fresh seafood prepared by a talented private chef (this costs extra but is still very reasonable), especially when enjoyed with a few glasses of chilled wine and good company on a balcony under the stars? Bo Phut is also surprisingly close by and we were amazed at the choice and quality of cuisine there. All the bedrooms are comfortable with plenty of space and storage, but the master suite by the pool is significantly more extravagant so room allocation could be an issue. The gigantic ensuite bath tub was an absolute joy and once you get used to the ‘shower with a view’ concept, daily ablutions become a whole new experience. Baan Ling Noi is not for vertigo sufferers, those who find a lot of stairs challenging, or for families with intrepid toddlers (note that the infinity pool does have a steep drop-off). But for those who enjoy privacy and total escape, it's nothing short of a natural high.
