We felt Villa Cinta had a great location if you’re looking for something central and within walking distance of the beach and the many shops, restaurants and bars that Seminyak is famous for. It took us around ten minutes to reach the main eating and shopping areas, as well as the beach near Gado Gado. The villa is basically self-catering although a simple breakfast is included in the rate; you say when you want it and there’s no problem if you want to make your own or indeed go out elsewhere to enjoy it. You can pay extra for a cook to come and make dinner for you at the villa (24 hours notice is required); at Rp 200,000 per person, however, the Indonesian food or BBQ that they prepare might cost more than eating out. The villa also has a good information file with a list of restaurants doing takeouts. Cinta means love and this emotion was reflected in the villa’s intimate size, its privacy and the tropical garden bathrooms, however its living areas felt a little formal and therefore lacked said romance; aside from the balé beside the pool there weren’t that many cushy places to properly lounge. Seating in the TV Room was also a little limited for a full house since the rattan sofa here only seats two comfortably. The villa’s size and centrality in Seminyak makes it a good choice for couples or small groups of friends; the rates differ if you’re booking two bedrooms or three which makes it more economical too. The two twin bedrooms make it equally suitable for families; older children might enjoy the villa more as there’s not a lot of garden for young kids to let off steam. There’s free WiFi (although it doesn’t stretch to the master bedroom), iPod docks and wired sound at the villa but you’ll need to bring your own DVDs, CDs and games. There’s a good information file in the villa plus a handy map which makes up for there being no live-in staff, however security patrol the estate 24 hours a day and the helpful staff are on call around the clock.

Highlights

Great location in Seminyak equidistant from Jalan Laksmana (Eat Street) and Jalan Dhyana Pura’s selection of bars and clubs plus only 250m to the beach. Many restaurants are within walking distance which is handy as the villa is offered only on a bed and breakfast basis.

Surprises

There are no major surprises here although there are a couple of things worth mentioning. The blinds can be fiddly, especially as some of them are broken. Ask a member of staff to help you with them if they are bothersome. Be very careful outside bedrooms two and three, and also in each of the bathrooms as the terrazzo floors can get very slippery when wet and tend to take ages to dry out. In the living room, and bedrooms too, the pull for the fan to increase or decrease its speed is far too high and not within reach, which isn’t ideal. Ask the staff to help if you need it adjusting rather than risk injuring yourself.
