As well as being exceptionally comfortable, Villa Valentine has a sense of light and space that you could only dream of in Seminyak; yet it’s close enough to that most happening of Balinese centres to make popping in for a meal or shopping trip a piece of cake. We spent a lot of time in the poolside pavilion which is the ideal chill zone - shady during the day and peaceful in the evenings, and is very well set up with lamps, stereo, and even a bar fridge. It’s also one of the best places to appreciate the sprawling gardens, which are park-like in scope and design. We thought the quirky furnishings were fun, especially the zebra-print chaise longue and the glitter balls, while the dining room with its art deco-style chandelier and fabulous feature mirror just begs for interesting dinner parties. One of the things we like most about Villa Valentine is that everything is so soft, fluffy and enveloping, from the daybeds to the Thai cushions to the plush black towels. We also liked the great choice of restaurants within walking distance, from cheap and cheerful warungs, to cafes like Butter (good for breakfast treats) and Canggu Plaza with pizza, Japanese food and Brazilian barbecue.

Highlights

The sense of space was a definite highlight, it was like having a small resort all to ourselves and we particularly liked the stylish bathrooms with their zen-like courtyards. The fabulous white feather lamps must get a mention, as must the lovely staff who took good care of us!

Surprises

Located next to a busy road, there was some traffic noise, but only at certain times of day and we quickly got used to it and the evenings were peaceful. The sleeping pavilions were very comfortable, but we thought the concrete exteriors were a little plain.
