4S Villas - Villa Sea

4S Villas - Villa Sea

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

Cosy, central and very, very private are the three adjectives we’d use to describe Villa Sea. For one couple, two couples or a family of four this represents great value for money considering the location. You literally cannot get any more central than this. It’s compact, sure, but it’s a perfectly formed sun trap that can’t fail to win you with its charm.

The kitchenette is good for preparing the occasional simple meal and the Casa Gourmet supermarket next door makes this option easy and attractive. After watching the sunset from the beach we had an evening in for a change and enjoyed a good pasta and a bottle of red by the pool. The beckoning restaurants will probably win most of the time, however, and you'll be spoiled for choice with the numbers of fine establishments within walking distance.

4S Villas - Villa Sun

4S Villas - Villa Sun

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

What a happy place Villa Sun is. With sun sculptures and sun-shaped chandeliers everywhere, we were in holiday mood from the moment we stepped inside. For a two-bedroom villa in deepest Seminyak, with a pool on one side and a small lawn on the other, we wanted for nothing. And not only is there a supermarket within 100m, but it’s one of the island’s best stocked, so we could get all our gourmet goodies without having to break a sweat. It’s a short stroll to the beach along a quiet set of lanes, which are virtually traffic free so no headaches there. Make sure you get down to the beach at cocktail hour for a sunset sky show that will leave you breathless. Then it’s just a short walk back to Seminyak’s famous restaurants and nightspots.

Villa Adasa

Villa Adasa

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

I’m moving in! Put it another way, I don’t want to leave Villa Adasa, ever. Within moments of our arrival, the sounds of the gamelan gave way to early Dylan rasping from the Sonos sound system. How did they KNOW he’s this reviewer’s all-time favourite? Mind-reading was clearly second nature for Villa Adasa’s staff, who seemed to know what we wanted before we did, but were just as adept at giving us complete privacy when that was called for too. While this is a great villa for a family as well as for friends/couples sharing, Villa Adasa manages to achieve a rare intimacy that would make it equally appealing to a couple looking to splurge on space. Villa Adasa delights 24/7. Daytime, we were faced with the taxing decision of whether to dive into an ocean of colourful cushions carpeting the double bale (gazebo), relax on the loungers by the pool, strip to bare essentials on the sun-deck above, or remain supine on the myriad sofas in the living pavilion. At sundown it was no contest; the best place to soak up Bali’s famous purple-hued sunset was from the loveseat on the master bedroom loggia. The night-time atmosphere at Villa Adasa is charming, thanks to its clever ambient lighting and comfortable living area. So dining presented us with an equally weighty dilemma: Do we select from the excellent menu and have our accomplished villa chef whip up a five-course meal or seafood barbecue for us, or do we wander out and take our pick from the many world-class restaurants within moments of the villa? We loved hanging out in the huge master bedroom suite and enjoyed the best night’s sleep thanks to a fabulously comfy bed, luxury goose-down duvet and pillows and high thread-count cotton sateen bed linen. The Sonos music system was swish, and being able to control it from our phone and laptop was pretty cool. And it was heaven having such a wonderful library of coffee table books and glossy magazines to browse. All in all, staying here was like breathing pure oxygen — I was on a permanent health-inducing ‘high’ throughout our all-too-short-stay.

Villa Asta

Villa Asta

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

Of all the villas we’ve reviewed in Bali, Villa Asta is tops for families and kids. Never have we seen a villa so well set up for children’s entertainment, and with separate zones so that the adults (and kids) can escape from one another. It is no surprise that it's often booked for months in advance and guests return each year. The Guy Morgan-designed villa is full of common sense but without skimping on the luxury. In the three-bedroom pavilion, many guests will appreciate the flexibility of the bed configurations. Do note that whilst we rave about Villa Asta for families – these bedrooms are excellent for adults too, so the villa would work well for groups. The private plunge pools beside the master bedrooms’ pavilion are a gorgeous plus. Overall we found the villa to be a very bubbly and happy place, from the excellent staff who served us a wonderful barbecue during our inspection, down to the super friendly (and very fat!) koi fish, which are a great source of entertainment and fun to feed. What is also special about Villa Asta is the lovely stonework and thatch, which left us in no doubt that we were in Bali. When we revisited the property recently, we found that it has been immaculately maintained, with some new upholstered furnishings, a new marble floor, and upgraded facilities such as flat-screen TVs, computer and printer for guest use, and the addition of four bicycles.

Villa Atas Ombak

Villa Atas Ombak

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

We loved Villa Atas Ombak. It’s big – nay grand – and majestic with a location that just can’t be found for love nor money these days. On arrival, we had to pinch ourselves to make sure we weren’t dreaming. This is the kind of place where you really come to relax and do nothing. And when we say ‘do nothing’ we mean just that, especially with the beach being on the front doorstep.

In the competitive world of luxury rental villas, it is often the staff that really makes a difference, and at Villa Atas Ombak they are definitely ‘on the ball’. Before we even knew we were thirsty, the housekeeper was strolling out to the lawn to see what we wanted to drink.

Should you feel like exploring beyond the villa grounds (and believe us, you may not!) there is a handful of local restaurants just a few hundred metres up the beach which make for an unpretentious, casual lunch or sunset drinks – so casual you don’t even need to change out of your swimmers. We didn’t! For guests who like to jog or amble along the sand, the distance to Kuta is a good challenge (with a taxi back of course).

The Baganding Villa

The Baganding Villa

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

I’m moving in! This villa has it all: personal staff, modern rustic decor, lush gardens, 12-metre pool, rooftop terrace and a perfect central Seminyak location. It is classic yet modern; stylish yet comfortable; spacious yet private. Of particular interest was the third-floor rooftop terrace with bar and lounge seating. We spent hours conversing over glasses of wine, delighting in the spectacular sunset view accompanied by the sound of the surf brought to our ears by gentle coastal breezes. At dinner, the chef served us a delicious Indonesian three-course meal that was as flavourful as it was colourful. After dining, we strolled through the illuminated garden and took a refreshing dip in the pool. Then we were off to experience Seminyak’s nightlife. After an hour or so of singing and dancing, it was time to return. The staff had prepared our beds and the room temperature was just right for us to slip away into a beautiful sleep.

We loved Villa Baganding! Its comfortable furnishings and warm-hearted staff made us feel at home. Combined with the central Seminyak location, we found it to be the ideal holiday villa for families and friends looking for a peaceful stay within reach of all that Seminyak has to offer.

Villa Bali Bali Cottage

Villa Bali Bali Cottage

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Umalas-Kerobokan

Of the three Bali Bali properties the Cottage is definitely the most intimate as its central living space with the plunge pool offers a couple or a family much privacy. Its design is simpler than its sister properties and although much smaller, good use is made of the space. The garden encroaches pleasingly on the interior design as the bathrooms and living areas are open to the sides or the skies to allow the tropical breezes to circulate and cool. We particularly liked the addition of the plunge pool that gave the property a hint of luxe and was sited such that it could be used very privately, day or night. The cottage would be ideal for a family of five as the third bedroom is very small and really only suitable for a child. The main bedroom – the largest room and the only one with an ensuite - is actually a twin rather than a double, probably due to a lack of space in the compact upstairs (double) bedroom. We found the staff to be always very friendly and discreet - there is a large team of 15 shared between the three Bali Bali villas – and outside of meal times (lovely Asian and western cuisine) we were left to ourselves.

NOTE:  Bali Bali Cottage can only be booked in conjunction with one or both of the other Bali Bali Villas.

Villa Bali Bali One

Villa Bali Bali One

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Umalas-Kerobokan

We were amazed by Villa Bali Bali One’s striking and highly unique architectural design. The sloping rooms and multi-level flooring make it feel larger whilst the villa’s soothing interiors  -  predominantly timber and stone  -  created an unpretentious and surprisingly homely atmosphere. The timber in the bedrooms gave the property a particularly cosy alpine feel that added character. This is our favourite Bali Bali Villa; its setting was very peaceful and the garden was a real treat, especially the generous swimming pool. The pool balé was as perfect for reclining in as it was a setting for enjoying refreshing massages that the management can easily arrange. The staff were very friendly and discreet - there is an efficient team of 15 shared between the three Bali Bali Villas  -  and outside of meal times (the food  -  both western and Asian  -  was very good) we were left peacefully to ourselves.

Villa Bali Bali Two

Villa Bali Bali Two

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Umalas-Kerobokan

Staying in Villa Bali Bali Two was intriguing, peaceful and private. In the most positive way, it felt like living in a modern day cave; you enter over giant stepping stones and then go down into the living room which features a roof that dips down almost entirely to the floor. This didn’t make the villa dark or enclosed as you might think as the whole front of the living room is open; instead it felt cosy. Also, this unique roof design manages to create little nooks and crannies to relax in making the property feel much bigger than it really is. We particularly liked the openness of the bathrooms and felt they were the best of all the Bali Bali Villas. The garden was very private and came with a small pool and tranquil balé ideal for shade seekers. There are only a few books to select from in the villa and no CDs or DVDs so you would need to bring your own entertainment with you. The TV and DVD player are a little old fashioned but both worked fine, and satellite channels were available too. The staff were very friendly and discreet - there is a large team of 15 shared between the three Bali Bali Villas  -  and outside of meal times (the food  -  both western and Asian cuisine  -  was very good) we were left very much alone.

Villa Batavia

Villa Batavia

Indonesia » Bali » Greater Seminyak » Seminyak

Villa Batavia is an architectural triumph – the designer has created a home reminiscent a bygone Indonesian era (though not strictly Balinese) and done it with real style.  Everywhere you turn there are little nostalgic reminders.  The space has been used very effectively such that all the rooms are elegant, generous and comfortable – we particularly liked the bathrooms with their towering doors and stained glass windows.  Villa Batavia would make a great base for a family or two (although some care would need to be taken with the pool) or a small group who want to enjoy being so close to Seminyak (restaurants, shops, beach etc) yet in a lovely relaxing setting.
