A large seated Buddha statue exudes a blissful aura in the garden while the interior sparkles with luxurious flourishes.
Vibrant, romantic and fun is how we would describe the heavenly realm of Sawan Anda ('Heaven of the Andaman'). This villa is certainly among the most fascinating – if not the most fabulous – we've ever seen. Its lavish furnishings and amazing mix of gadgets and works of art make it truly original. We spent an inordinate amount of time just gaping at the design detail (especially the incredible fibre-optic mural that runs the length of the stairwell) and playing with the lighting controls. On the touch-screen control for the living and dining area we noted the usual ‘Romantic’ mood lighting settings, but then had some fun with the 'Pink' and 'Purple' settings, which instantly drenched the space in the respective colour themes. Neat! We always enjoy a villa with a sense of place, and Sawan Anda did not disappoint. In addition to its flash modern features, Thai and other Asian works of art – both ancient and contemporary – livened up every corner, and even the garden had a truly Thai flair courtesy of the seated Buddha designed by a Thai national artist. The high level of pampering offered from the moment we arrived (welcome garlands, tea and cold towels proffered by smiling staff) till our departure helped us get in touch with our inner rock star. And while we did manage to find time for an in-villa massage (nice, but rather vigorous!), we sadly didn’t get the chance to book a luxurious island cruise on one of the villa owner's two yachts. Overall, Sawan Anda is an exquisite villa that offers a romantic retreat, a soothing place to unwind in the tropics, and a fun party venue all under one roof.

Highlights
The villa’s spectacular view and its proximity to the beach are two of Sawan Anda’s highlights, while its funky modern interiors provide an equal dose of dazzle. The spa room is a relaxing place to hang out – even if not enjoying a treatment – with its daybed set in sparkling, lava-rock splendour.
Surprises
With so many up-to-the-minute electronics, screens and remotes, the villa's entertainment options might prove rather daunting for technophobes, though villa staff are there to assist. While the villa’s interiors enjoy the utmost privacy, certain points on the terrace and in the garden may experience some disturbance from neighbouring villas and the small apartment complex across the road. While we enjoyed perfect silence in the evening, we have heard that there can be some noise if a bar on Surin Beach is holding an event.
