3 bedroom villa located in Tabanan, Bali. Ideal for Beach in ten, Beachfront, Body and soul, Bring the relatives, Going for golf, Kid friendly, Perfect for weddings, Room with a view, Sensible for seniors, The great outdoors.
Classically designed and fully staffed, 3-bedroom Villa Kailasha is a serene rural outpost lying just above the beach on Bali’s south-western shores that leaves guests wanting for little. Here, seaside and country walks, relaxing beside the swimming pool or saying “I Do” in the huge garden is what it’s all about.
“A luxurious hideaway of pavilions and pools, woven together by pathways.”
Guests booking Villa Kailasha will hopefully have spotted that it’s in a remote location so there should be no surprise on arrival: we certainly thought the villa’s setting was sublime. Long stretches of black sand and marauding surf with hardly another tourist in sight. We spent most of our time stretched out by the pool enjoying the ministrations of the staff and soaking up the ocean views, but while we were there we were privileged to witness a village ceremony when the procession passed right by the villa’s front gate. We followed the merriment and colour down to the beach and experienced a Balinese event that, for us, was priceless.
For a change of scenery, take a stroll along the small roads and into the local villages for a slice of rural life. And for something a little more sophisticated, stop by the Alila Villas Soori Resort for dinner, or at least a sunset drink. The classy surroundings are pretty special and being so remote not many people drop in, so don’t miss the opportunity while you’re in the neighbourhood. We went for the said sunset drink but ended up staying for dinner – and really rated their kitchen. While their spa would probably welcome visitors as well, it’s perhaps more tempting to ask the villa staff to organise a therapist to come and give you a treatment at ‘home’.

Highlights
The peace, solitude and views at Villa Kailasha just can’t be beat. For dinner we were served fish bought from one of the fishermen on the beach. And you can’t get much fresher than that.
Surprises
The sea here is prone to strong currents and rips so only experienced swimmers should venture out beyond their knees. However, the villa sits above a river mouth so adventurous kids can splash in the safe shallow waters of the lagoon and, of course, there’s always the swimming pool … and the plunge pool.
We had a wonderfull stay at the Kailasha! The friendly, helpfull and caring staff provided excellent service and made our stay one of the best vacations ever!
The villa is beautiful and well furnished with an open solution that gives you the feeling of being outside even as sitting inside. We also enjoyed lazy days by the big swimming pool.
The location is remote, and hence the car and driver are important for getting around. We enjoyed the location in a more typical Balinese environment, and with some distance to the noisy tourist areas.

Our family enjoyed Villa Kailasha immensely and we are looking forward to returning in the future. The staff led by Wayan were outstanding providing caring and personal service. Meals prepared by Kadek were wonderful with both Dawe and Dawa providing table service were fantastic. Our driver, Putu was so helpful and obliging, a careful driver and very professional. Our sincere thanks to all.
Somewhere along Bali’s rugged Tabanan coastline, west of Tanah Lot, a coconut-grove garden looks out over a lonely surf beach. Further investigation reveals a luxurious hideaway comprised of a series of single-storey pavilions including a master suite with private plunge pool, a two-bedroom guesthouse and an infinity-edge swimming pool, woven together by pathways, yet separated by ornamental ponds, flowering hedges and rustic walls. Kailasha, meaning Paradise of the Gods, is an appropriate name for this serene estate, which rests upon an expansive 1.1 hectares of hillside land, with Alila Villas Soori as its prestigious five-star neighbour.
Embracing contemporary-tropical style with elegant interiors, a blend of modern, antique and Dutch colonial furnishings, colourful fabrics and artwork, Villa Kalisha is as close to the beach as you can get without actually having sand tramped through the house. This villa offers guests an escape from the modern pressures of consumerism, congestion and overcrowding – there are no hawkers, no shops, no traffic jams and very few tourists.
The sweeping beach, with its river estuary, freshwater lagoon and a Hindu sea temple, is a mere three-minute stroll from the front gate. In the late afternoons, many of the locals congregate on the sand to bathe, paddle, hang out or play football; it’s a lively, happy scene. Colourful temple ceremonies are also a common spectacle, while inland from the beach visitors will find traditional villages and endless paddy fields. This is the Bali that everyone comes to see but surprisingly few get to experience.
In these gentle surroundings, guests will be charmed by the villa’s classic architecture, modern facilities, and an extraordinary amount of private space, complemented by a full team of caring staff who will attend to every need. Catering works on a system whereby guests choose dishes from a suggestion menu (in advance, so that staff can get to market and back in time) and a minimal amount is added to the cost of the provisions to cover petrol.
Villa Kailasha is ideal for a family or a small group of friends, while its velvety lawns are perfect for weddings, parties, and celebrations against the glorious backdrop of the windswept beach and the white capped waves.
Kailasha is a long way out of town and there are no restaurants, bars or shops nearby apart from the discrete, ‘no-kids’, five star Alila Villas Soori Resort, which is just 300m away and opens its fine dining restaurant and open-air sunset bar to non-residents. There are also a couple of local shops just up the road, useful for small necessities such as cigarettes, soft drinks and ice creams. The rugged black-sand beach and river estuary offers beautiful walks and this stretch of coastline is popular with surfers (but there are strong rip currents and no life guards on the beach so it’s not really safe for swimming). Religious ceremonies at the village temple on the beach are not an uncommon sight.
About Tabanan Tabanan has a 30km-long coastline, which presents isolated coves and rocky outcrops and is famous for its surf beaches, including Medewi and Balian, which offer the longest point breaks in Bali. (The drawbacks if you're not a surfer are the sometimes-three-metre-high waves and the undertows). The beaches are sloping and lovely to walk along; covered with black sand which is regarded for its curative, therapeutic properties and especially helpful for arthritis. The Regency is known as Bali's ‘rice bowl' – the most agriculturally productive region on the island, with rice fields stretching from the coast to as high as 700m above sea level, where the terraces are reminiscent of amphitheatres. Besides rice, there are crops of coconuts, coffee, cacao, spices and tropical fruits. This area is also home to Mount Batukau (2276m), the higher slopes of which are alpine, with mountain streams, ferns, wildflowers, creepers and orchids, as well as the rare, black, leaf-eating monkey, the kijang (small forest deer), large butterflies and moths, flying lizards, the landak (porcupine) and the lubak (mongoose). It is also a bird watchers' paradise, habitat of the Bali black eagle. There are no western-style shops or bars in this area, and restaurants serving international cuisine are few and far between, mainly adjoined to the region' s limited number of small and remote hotels.
About Bali Bali is Indonesia's most popular tourist location and is considered one of Asia's premier tropical island destinations. Steeped in history and renowned for its artistic way of life, Bali is a peaceful contrast to some of the more frantic destinations Asia has to offer. The inner peace and creative talents of the Balinese has attracted artists the world over fascinated by local dancers, silversmiths, wood carvers, potters and painters that seem to pervade throughout the island. The abundant verdant fields and surrounding sea have long supplied Bali with an easy surplus of food leaving time for life's more artistic past times. As a result everything in Bali has a creative and religious element centred around the local Banjar (residents association) – little, adorned temples are everywhere, doors are covered in intricate carvings, huge kites ward off evil spirits and colourful roadside ceremonies bring traffic to a standstill. Bali is a popular destination principally from Australia and Asia but also from all over Europe. The island welcomes thousands of visitors each year to a relaxing lifestyle, stunning beaches, world class surf, vibrant villages, and spectacular scenery all with an exquisite tropical climate. Located approximately two hours' flying time from Singapore the island is serviced by an international airport at Denpasar with direct flights to and from many major cities in Asia, Europe and Australia and many more via Jakarta, Indonesia's capital. The island offers an impressive range of leisure and lifestyle amenities including world-class golf courses, wonderful seascapes for surfing, diving and snorkelling as well as luxurious spas, chic boutiques, tropical forests, towering volcanoes and international cuisine.
Villa Kailasha comprises a series of single-storey pavilions, including a living pavilion and a dining pavilion, both of which are open to the sea breezes and ocean views. In one corner of the vast garden a two-suite guesthouse offers a peaceful retreat; in another, the master suite presents complete privacy with its own plunge pool, deck and bale (relaxation pavilion).
The living pavilion is divided into three sitting areas including a television-watching area with sofas, chairs and a large flat-screen TV with DVD player. To the front is a wide, partially sheltered stone terrace, complete with an alfresco dining area with a table for eight. Adjacent is a modern kitchen, fully equipped with an oven and gas hob, fridge, microwave and coffee machine.
The dining pavilion is furnished with two solid wood tables (one large, one small) that can be brought together to make a dining table for ten, complete with wicker chairs. This pavilion is set in a semi-walled courtyard and is linked to the main living pavilion by a short pathway.
The large master suite is furnished with a king-size bed and two wicker armchairs and equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, satellite-channel TV and fridge. A ‘secret’ door, hidden behind a mirror, leads to an air-conditioned dressing room almost big enough for a party. The ensuite bathroom is fitted with a rain shower and a bathtub looking into a private garden with outdoor shower. A separate vanity area opens directly into the private, 6sqm plunge pool, opposite which is a thatched bale pavilion furnished with a table and two chairs.
The guesthouse presents two almost-identical suites within a private courtyard. Each room is furnished with a king-size bed and equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, satellite-channel TV and fitted dressing areas. The bathrooms feature twin washbasins, rain showers and bathtubs set alongside picture windows overlooking private gardens.
Dotted with flowering trees and scented with exotic blossoms, Kailasha’s huge garden rolls down to a sparkling 14m infinity-edged swimming pool. This is bordered by a stone-and-grass chequerboard deck furnished with sunshades and loungers and with a large, comfortable bale to one side – all presenting spectacular views of the glistening black-sand beach and the ocean.
