A peaceful rural retreat away from the glitz and high prices of Bali's tourist areas.
The villa is perfectly positioned for guests to beat the traffic when heading to the surf beaches or up to the mountains for oodles of natural and cultural tourism. Within a ten-minute drive are some of Bali's most empty and dramatic beaches, which are well worth the visit. Back at base, the villa has a pool that laps up the sun and small relaxation pavilions to shelter from the heat.
Please note there are no back-up generators at Terang Bulan in the case of a powercut, so it's worth investing in some candles. You will also need to bring a mobile phone as there is no land line here.
The views are huge and magical. If you are staying during a full moon, you will understand why the villa is named after the moonshine; and when there is no moon, the night skies, unsullied by street lights, are magnificent. We revelled in the intimacy, peacefulness and solitude of this stunning location.
The villa is missing some basic kitchen equipment such as toaster and kettle, although the microwave and oven grill stepped in to save the day. Basic condiments for tea and coffee-making were also missing, and we felt that a few more essentials would have been a welcome touch.
