Grand Villa Noi

Passing through coconut tree groves, catching glimpses of rice paddies and the occasional water buffalo, our mood was already set for a relaxing tropical holiday as we approached the villa.

Grand Villa Noi lived up to all our expectations. It is a spectacular five-bedroom villa with direct access to the pristine Natai Beach, something that we enjoyed thoroughly as we love taking walks on the sand. The villa features lavish interiors and comfortable living spaces. We especially appreciated the fine attention to detail, with massive floor-to-ceiling glass doors allowing us gorgeous views of the sea, the sky and the garden. The 28-metre infinity pool spilling onto the beach was a favourite with our group, as some of us lounged on the timber deck while others played games in the family room.

Perfect for families and large groups of friends, Grand Villa Noi has ample space for ten people. The fully staffed villa has an excellent living area with a range of entertainment options and facilities. Peaceful and tranquil, the villa features lavish interiors and a wonderful mix of Thai and modern designs.

At Grand Villa Noi, our days were filled with many swims in the ocean, long walks on the pristine beach, lazing by the infinity swimming pool and catching up on sleep. Dining on delicious, authentic Thai cuisine was also a highlight of our stay. The children enjoyed the designated children’s seating area, and took advantage of the tables and chairs to spend their days doodling and reading books.

We wanted a relaxing holiday away from the crowds, and Grand Villa Noi was the perfect spot for it. The villa’s semi-rural location, north of Phuket International Airport, worked well for us as we wanted to really disconnect and immerse ourselves in Thailand’s superb natural surroundings.

Infinity Blue Phuket

On a beach that’s home to some very large villas, Infinity Blue is a more modest Natai escape, but for our family’s holiday requirements – sun, sand, sea and swims – it was the perfect choice. Khun Sao, the full-time housekeeper, greeted us warmly on arrival and we quickly settled in for an afternoon of drifting down to the beach to cool our feet in the sea before retreating for a lazy read on the shaded terrace while watching the kids splash around in the pool.

As the villa’s name suggests, the views are endlessly blue and mesmerising and we made sure to have all our meals alfresco on the terrace so we wouldn’t miss a minute of the changing colours as the sun dipped towards the horizon. There’s no in-villa chef included but this didn’t hinder us from eating very well during our stay! On our first evening, Khun Sao arranged for delivery of a selection of Thai dishes from a nearby restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised when she also thoughtfully presented and served the meal, which was delicious. (Especially the tom yam.)

We also enjoyed the chance to get out and explore some of the dining spots in the area. We can recommend the Aleenta resort restaurant and Baba Beach Club – both are set along the beach just a short stroll away from the villa. And we also enjoyed a more rustic lunch at a beachfront place about five kilometres to north called Rabiang Lay, where we sat under thatch roofed huts gorging on tasty soft-shell crab curry. Paradise found!

Khun Sao is friendly and eager to please, although her English skills are a bit limited. We were able to communicate well enough on our visit, but were reassured to know we could call the villa manager in case we did need more assistance. Overall, Infinity Blue is a fine family escape that’s quietly elegant and comfy – with those priceless views. With its four bedrooms set in two separate pavilions it’s especially well-suited for extended families or a group of friends.

Malaiwana - Villa M

Villa M underwent a million-dollar makeover just before our visit in 2017, and it was sparkling like brand new. And that’s a five-star down-to-the-tiniest-detail brand new.

The villa is also in an absolutely stunning location, high up on a steep wooded hill, presiding over a 180-degree ocean view. Coming through the surprisingly modest front door, we were blown away by that view and its reflection in the infinity-edge pool.

When we finally dragged ourselves away for a tour of the villa, we found that every door we opened led to more delights; one superbly designed room after another. All the rooms feature large modern art canvasses – most in bright colours. It’s almost as if the villa knows it has to do something pretty spectacular to compete with the view for your attention, and these amazing art pieces are it.

Upstairs, the walls of Villa M are almost entirely of glass, so that indoor luxury and outdoor amazement merge. But even on the lower floor every room has that same breathtaking view. It’s really quite delightfully distracting.

After chilled sundowners to accompany the evening’s heavenly spectacle and supper looking out at the green and white lights of the fishing boats, we decided to leave the delights of the entertainment room for another day and just relax in the super-comfortable living room.

Making this all so much more luxurious were the amiable and generous-minded villa manager, her assistant and the chef, who ensured that we enjoyed royal treatment throughout our stay.

Villa Nandana

With such a magnificent setting on the beachfront at Natai, Villa Nandana had us hooked even before we stepped across its threshold. And yet, we were bowled over again once we had a peek inside. The pitch-roofed living room with its aura of a fine summer palace, the master suite with its lavish double bathtub enveloped in marble, the inviting pool perched near the seafront – simply, wow!

With its balance of shared spaces and ultra-private bedrooms, Nandana is a fabulous retreat for families or groups of friends. Those looking for a more transformative holiday will find that the villa facilities are perfect for designing your own wellness retreat. We could have even arranged for a personal trainer, yoga teacher or spa therapist to come to the villa and work us into fit and fighting shape had the mood taken us. But the sea-view pool, a good book to curl up with on the comfy living room sofas, and toes-in-the-sand beach walks were enough of a body and mind recovery for this family!

It’s a magical feeling to return from a long, leisurely stroll and see that the only footprints on the sand are ours. With Phuket Island getting more crowded with each passing year, we’re happy to know that such a spacious, peaceful and elegant escape can be reached within an hour of touching down at the airport. Paradise found!

Panacea Retreat - Kalya Residence

From the moment we arrived at Kalya Residence and were greeted by warm smiles, welcome drink, cool towel and garland of flowers, we began to unwind. We particularly enjoyed our daily yoga session with an experienced teacher, who knew our individual strengths and limits right away – a great perk! Although we were already feeling pretty relaxed by now, our in-villa massages were the icing on the cake!

The kitchen team really know their stuff at Panacea Retreat Residences. The dishes we ordered from the a la carte menu were fresh, with an emphasis on quality ingredients and there was a good selection of meat, seafood, poultry, vegetarian and healthy options, as well as local favourites. Meals other than breakfast are prepared in the estate’s professional kitchen, and special orders, eg barbecues, can be discussed with your villa host. Breakfast is no simple affair, with the chef’s baking skills in evidence once again. We recommend the freshly made yoghurt pots, with granola and fruit puree, and some avocado, smoked salmon, cold cuts or cheese to accompany your toast … or perhaps a full cooked breakfast if you have room? Throughout the day, freshly brewed coffee and pots of tea were on offer, with the chef’s biscotti and cookies to keep us sustained until our next delicious meal.

The villa’s layout meant that we found it easy to both come together as a group, or retreat to the calmness of our bedrooms if we wanted some quiet time. High-pressure rain showers were most enjoyable to freshen up before dinner, and guests in the master suite can also enjoy the luxury of a deep terrazzo bathtub. We found the staff to be attentive, always there when we wanted a drink, yet unobtrusive, allowing us to enjoy the luxuries and surroundings of the villa undisturbed.
