The view at Villa Benyasiri is to die for: a truly spectacular panorama. The villa is perfect for those who enjoy a private, luxury experience with little desire to leave the amazing views that the villa offers. Groups would also enjoy this villa for a party or reunion, but remember that two of the five bedrooms are twin-share and more oriented to families holidaying with children.

A definite party pad, Villa Benyasiri offers Vogue-style views, modern living and contemporary spaces. The owners, who frequently holiday here, have two energetic kids, but if you are travelling with young children who need lots of space, Villa Benyasiri may be a little constraining; families with older children looking for ‘action’ may prefer a less secluded location although Patong is really not far away.

Samsara Estate - Villa Fah Sai

We thought that Villa Fah Sai was very homely and thoughtfully designed so that the views can be admired and enjoyed to the max. The dining deck offers the best panoramas and is perfect for entertaining, with its barbecue and built-in speakers. The kitchen is also a very sociable space with its breakfast nook and plenty of room for a couple of cooks.

The villa would be great for two families, an extended family, couples or groups of friends, although the rooms are not all equally sized; the master bedroom, with its direct staircase link to the fifth bedroom, is ideal for a family share. The well-equipped entertainment room will also appeal to kids, and the swimming pool has a shallow end (though supervision of smaller children would still be necessary around the infinity edge).

The villa would also make a good corporate escape; the master bedroom is private and has an attached lounge and office, the villa is WiFi enabled and has a telephone in each room, and there are plenty of spectacular locations for wining and dining. The management’s ‘can-do’ guest relations service and the excellent Thai chef also enhance its suitability for a business retreat; specific menus and social occasions can be arranged on request. Food is prepared according to a villa menu, and staff will do your shopping (provisions at cost, plus a shopping charge added to guest account).

The villa’s spa room (when not being used as the fifth bedroom!) is a delight, and means that you don’t have to travel anywhere for a pampering treat! Twin massage tables allow for romantic double treatments too.

Samsara Estate - Villa Hale Malia

For privacy, location and facilities Villa Hale Malia takes a lot of beating and we loved the modern architecture which is very different to other villas we’ve experienced in Thailand. However the real stand out is the view – you will be hard pressed to find anything like it.

Service is very good, discreet yet attentive and the home-cooked meals are excellent. The bathrooms are modern and clean, bedrooms comfortable with pleasant patios and views but it is the common areas which shine with cathedral style ceilings and extensive use of glass and that stunning panorama.

It’s not easy for a villa to be adaptable all types of clientele but we felt that Villa Hale Malia comes very close. For those travelling with young children, it’s perhaps not the perfect choice – there are steep drop-offs in the sloping garden and from the edge of the pool – and it’s a little too secluded for multiple trips into town. We’d recommend it more for those looking to stay in and enjoy the villa, the views and the polished service. That said, many of the owners of these villas have young families and we know they have a wonderful time. The villa is a great place for hosting a party and the excellent sound system (with speakers in all living areas, including the outside sala and brbecue pit) can be cranked up quite high without having to worry too much about disturbing the neighbours.

Samsara Estate - Villa Leelavadee

Groups of friends and couples will adore the privacy of Leelavadee’s location and its potential for entertaining, however we felt the villa to be particularly suited to families (one or two) since it has two twin rooms which share a balcony and two larger bedroom suites. Since the bedrooms are on the lower level we felt they were given more privacy and allowed the upstairs living/dining areas to be used exclusively for relaxing and entertaining. A garden surrounds the villa, but it is steep and was used more as an alternative route to different parts of the villa than for relaxing in. The swimming pool has an infinity edge and looks towards the sea through branches that – although providing Leelavadee with lots of privacy – do somewhat disturb the views. The gym and pool table offer diversion away from the living areas so that others can relax in peace and quiet, however speakers are wired throughout the villa if a background beat is desired. The home cinema really enhances the villa’s appeal for families and movie buffs, especially as the bookshelves of the media room are filled with a large selection of DVDs as well as CDs and board games. Since the large sofas in this room can be made into an extra bed, this room can also be used as a fifth bedroom if necessary (it has its own ensuite bathroom too).

Samsara Estate - Villa Lomchoy

Villa Lomchoy has great potential for those looking for a secluded but stylish retreat. It’s a fair distance from town but its cliff-top location is unbeatable in terms of privacy and stunning vista. We loved the living spaces, particularly outdoors around the amazing pool terrace – this has to be one of the best sunset views on the island.

The villa’s interior design is minimalist but shows both good taste and a sense of humour – we liked the oversized wooden teapot set on a bed of white pebbles on the downstairs landing and the old photo of the Shanghai Bund in the study. Other design pieces, whether the over-sized gourds or the antique bow and arrow add both a sense of fun and a refinement to the property.

Bedrooms are comfortable and full of natural light and we enjoyed the unique artwork on the walls and the individual colour schemes. The owners have young children but the villa isn’t particularly ideal for families with straying toddlers, due to the steepness of the garden and the drop from the infinity pool – with due care however it shouldn’t pose a problem. Service from the house-keeper was friendly and helpful although her limited English made communication slightly complicated.

Samsara Estate - Villa Viman

Samsara Villa Viman really is huge, and we loved the fact that even with large groups, there’s still a wide choice of indoor areas to escape to for some peace. The view is exceptional and the pool terrace and sala maximise the enjoyment of the natural surroundings with aplomb. The villa owners obviously have children and the villa has been designed to make sure that guests of all ages are kept busy, rain or shine. The table tennis was a great touch, as was the table football in the huge kids’ bedroom, whilst the home cinema was one of the best we’ve seen.

Service is good and the home-cooked Thai food is excellent – we liked the menu of local delicacies and the fact that the staff can generally organise whatever guests require, whether a pool-side barbecue or sunset drinks in the amazing sala - with English-speaking on-site management close at hand, it’s easy to organise a rental car or a trip to the golf course without getting caught out by the language barrier.

Surin Springs - Villa 6

Surin Springs Villa 6 is a tranquil base from which to comfortably enjoy this upmarket area of Phuket. The swimming pool looks over the lagoon and is a very relaxing place to soak up the sun whilst the lovely Surin beach is only a ten-minute walk down the road.

We thought the villa would be especially suitable for families, as kids will enjoy the independence of the upper-floor rooms whilst the master suite has a lovely situation beside the pool overlooking the lagoon. The shallow section of the pool, closest to the villa, means that younger children can safely make the most of the water. The kitchen is well equipped with appliances but only has the bare essentials in terms of cooking utensils, however with such a great choice of restaurants in the area – from local Thai food at the end of the road to fabulous upmarket dining (most including children’s menus), you might not be cooking much at home. A Thai chef can also be arranged to cook for you at the villa (with 24 hours notice and at extra cost) if you fancy a change.

We were able to contact the management company at any time of the day when we needed help with tour bookings and transport. They also provide a laundry service and can do your food shopping for you (an itemised list with prices is available in the villa information pack) if you really want to have a break from the usual household chores.

Looking for the postcard-perfect family holiday escape? Then simply insert yourself here, at Moonstone Villa! This is truly a family-oriented villa within easy reach of Phuket’s most family-friendly beach – kids of all ages will absolutely love it here. We really valued Moonstone’s tranquillity and the feeling that you’re in the centre of a lush oasis while being able to enjoy all the modern comforts you’d expect in a luxury holiday home. We appreciated the small touches that give the villa added safety and comfort, such as having ceiling fans in the bathrooms (anyone who has ever found themselves ready for another shower within five minutes of having their first one will know what we mean!), and a protective fence for the pool available on request. The huge pool terrace, with its sala dining area and barbecue, made us wish we’d brought along half a dozen more friends since it’s ideal for pool parties. With meals mostly taken care of by the full-time housekeeper–cook and a wealth of dining choices to enjoy within minutes, the only major decision during our stay was: Beach or Pool? This happy dilemma was usually answered with: Both! Refreshing laps in the pool by morning were followed with trips down to the beach in the late afternoon to watch the sun sink into the sea behind the silhouettes of tall-masted yachts. Total tropical bliss. (Declaration of bias: Nai Harn is our favourite beach in Phuket, so we are likely to have extra fondness for any villa located in this area!)

‘Emerald’ is certainly an apt name for this holiday home whose terraces are perfectly positioned to drink in the lush, tropical hillside views. This is truly a family-oriented villa within easy reach of Phuket’s most family-friendly beach – kids of all ages will absolutely love it here.

We really enjoyed Emerald’s tranquillity and the feeling that you’re hidden away from the world while enjoying all the modern comforts you’d expect in a luxury holiday home. We appreciated the small touches that give the villa added comfort, like the bean-bag chairs and having ceiling fans in the bathrooms (anyone who has ever found themselves ready for another shower within five minutes of having their first one will know what we mean!). The huge pool terrace, with its sala dining area and barbecue, made us wish we’d brought along half a dozen more friends since it’s ideal for pool parties.
