Canal Village This small shopping plaza inside the Laguna resort complex is not the island's liveliest but it is attractively laid out with a good range of boutique shops selling clothing and accessories, handicrafts and souvenirs. In addition to a Jim Thompson silk outlet, there’s a health clinic, minimart, a small children's playground and the pleasant Albatross cafe where you can dine while overlooking the lagoon.

Cozy Company A cluster of shops specialising in antiques, works of art, jewellery, handicrafts, clothing and fine furnishings have been built up along Lagoon Road, better known -- rather inelegantly -- as "the road leading to Laguna Phuket". Among these are Cozy Company, which sells contemporary home decor items and furniture, The Handmade selling high-end stainless steel cutlery, and Silk Wood featuring original works of art and wooden decor products.

Wine & Taste This small shop specialises in wine from Australia, California, France, Italy, Spain and South Africa, and also sells quality wine accessory products. A fun place to browse for sleek, shiny things.

Cape Panwa Promenade The pleasant wide sidewalk that lines the shoreline from the Naval base to the Aquarium brings out the locals every evening to enjoy evening walks, and sample the fried snacks and drinks sold off motorbike carts and stands. On the inland side of the road are a handful of souvenir shops, mini-marts and tailors. In the drier months of November-April nightly open markets are held along the walkway, with souvenirs, gifts and local arts and crafts for sale.

Central Food Hall This food centre on the main floor of the big Central Festival mall is anchored by a modern Tops supermarket with a great range of Western specialties, a decent deli and bakery, quality imported meats and seafood, and a good selection of wine, beer and spirits. Stalls and outlets surrounding it sell local snack foods, prepared meals, sushi, coffee, ice cream and drinks, and there's a counter to order fresh sandwiches and soups and dine in the casual seating area. Everything from sauerkraut to sushi to som-tam may be found here.

Tesco Lotus Express A small supermarket where you can pick up all the basics including a selection of fresh meats, deli items, cheese, milk, canned foods, cereals, fruit and vegetables, beer and spirits.

Kamala Bakery The place to find fresh loaves of bread, croissants, sandwiches and other baked goods plus a range of deli items including cheeses, bacon, hams, sausage, and frozen meats. Dine in or take away.

Tesco-Lotus Express A small supermarket to pick up all the basics including a selection of fresh meats, deli items, cheese, milk, canned foods, cereals, fruit and vegetables, beer and spirits. Those needing a better selection travel south to Carrefour in Patong.

Kata Fresh Markets Get there early to avoid missing out on the best fruits and veggies at Kata's Somjit daily fresh market, open daily until about 7pm on Patak Road near the PTT petrol station. Those in the know looking for even better-value fresh produce visit the twice-weekly market that sets up on New Kata Road every Monday and Thursday. Even if you're not in the mood to buy, it's a great way to catch a glimpse into Phuket's lively and colourful market life.

Kata Night Markets & Street Shopping Though its street shopping is far less hectic than Patong's, there are plenty of vendors lining the streets of Kata looking to tempt a few baht from you in the evenings. The busiest area is along the main roads and down the little sois (lanes) around T-junction of Kok Thanod Road and Kata Road behind the Kata Beach Resort. Mostly souvenirs, beach wear and cheap handicrafts but there are a few treasures to be found here and there.

Makro A smaller branch of the wholesaler supermarket brand sells fresh meats, deli items, cheese, milk, canned foods, cereals, fruit and vegetables, beer and spirits.

Tesco-Lotus Park plaza The busy Tesco-Lotus supermarket sells fresh produce, seafood, dairy, deli items, canned goods and a small selection of baked goods, plus some wines, beer and spirits. A better range of wine and fresh baked goods are available at the small Wine Connection outlet. A bookshop, several banks, a massage parlour, pizza and ice-cream outlets and a Black Canyon cafe are also found here.

Tesco-Lotus Plaza This mid-sized supermarket in Kokkloy village, about a 10-minute drive from Natai Beach, sells a limited range of fresh produce, seafood, dairy, deli items, canned goods and baked goods, plus some wines, beer and spirits.

Turtle Village This 'village' style mall has two levels and some 3,000 square metres of retail space. Here, you can find gifts, Thai arts and crafts, boutique clothing shops including a Jim Thompson silk outlet and a convenience store. Choices are limited here compared with other Phuket malls including Central Festival in Phuket Town and Jungcelyon in Patong, but for those staying in the north of Phuket or Phang Nga this is the best option.

Baan Thai Antiques This small shop is chock full of a collection of antiques and traditional arts and crafts including ceramics, carvings, furniture, jewellery, cabinets, silks, vases, bronze ware and decorative items from Thailand and throughout Asia.

Big C Supermarket A hypermarket occupying two floors of Jungceylon mall, Big C is the place to find a good range of baked goods, fresh local and imported meats and produce, and a large liquor and wine store.

Central Festival This large shopping centre on the outskirts of Phuket Town is brimming with name-brand shops, local souvenir vendors, a great range of restaurants and bars plus a cinema multiplex showing all the latest films.

Jungceylon shopping mall This is a more upmarket alternative for those seeking retail therapy. 'That's Siam' basement bazaar is a great place to haggle for handicrafts, fabrics and clothing and find some real bargains in air-conditioned comfort. Enjoy alfresco or indoor dining along the Sino Phuket Zone, where there's a cluster of good cafes.

Patong night market (Bangla road) Soi Bangla turns into a walking street at night. Bangla's bewildering mix of bars and street hawkers make it a fun place to wander and people-watch even if you're not keen to pick up a fake Rolex or cheap T-shirt.
