The Experience
The approach to Villa Ylang Ylang is breathtaking – large wooden gates open onto an expansive black cobbled turning circle surrounded by walls covered in rich green creepers. At the centre is an imposing black chalice fountain. Six Balinese maidens line the entrance wall with cascading waters jugs filling a fishpond. Enter through the tall black gateposts and ahead is the main house with its 11-metre-high atrium. Towering cream-coloured colonnades support the vast rattan-lined roof. Floor-to-ceiling wood doors fold back to reveal a superb 16m swimming pool and the beach beyond. Black and white stone terraces mirror the dark black sands of the beach and the breaking surf of the crashing waves. Rich gold furnishings, brown drapes and dark wood trim enhance a rather regal ambiance.
The black, white and gold theme runs throughout The Ylang Ylang from the deck and balés (gazebos) by the beach through the two beachfront master suites (each complete with an open-air cold-water jacuzzi), through to the two queen bedrooms and their respective connecting twin rooms (all ensuite) to the kitchen and study/entertainment room stuffed with DVDs. White sculptures dotted around the manicured lawns and white terrace pebbles offset black sun loungers and matching umbrellas. Gold curtains and cushions lift black and white marble floors throughout, and meals might be served on gold plates by staff decked out in Oriental-style black jackets.
For the meals themselves, a suggestion menu offers a range of gourmet dishes including Asian, Italian, fusion and healthy options. The chef is happy to take your requests and will undertake the shopping on guest account for the cost of the ingredients. Grocery cost is charged 20% handling fee which is subject to service and tax at the prevailing rate. Other members of the staff team include maids, butlers and 24-hour security, all under the direction of a villa manager. The villa also provides airport transfers, with additional use of the car and driver charged to guests.

The villa at night is enchanting, beautifully lit - absolutely magical.
Initially, The Ylang Ylang can come across as quite daunting, especially the atrium, but it doesn't take long to settle in and feel comfortably at home. The staff are incredibly welcoming and gracious; some of them have been working here for nine years. The black and gold theme will not be to everyone’s taste – it is a bit glitzy – and we never did figure out what the blue lighting under the beds was all about!
Given its seafront location and the salt water environment maintenance is a continual battle and, in places, the villa is definitely showing its age. Some fittings may not work and some of the huge doors maybe stiff – it shouldn’t affect your enjoyment of Villa Ylang Ylang though, and staff are on hand if you need help with anything. Some of the bathrooms feel a little dated but they function just fine.

Highlights
The villa at night is enchanting. The living pavilion is beautifully lit and with some great music playing (we found opera worked best for us) the whole place is absolutely magical. The Ylang Ylang would be great for a party that’s for sure. Not a bad pool either!
Surprises
The Ylang Ylang is not actually absolute beachfront: between the villa lawns and the beach is a river, the Petanu, which constantly changes its course and is too deep to walk through, but the staff will take you across in a boat. If it rains in the mountains, the river can get quite feisty.

Our stay was beyond wonderful - the villa, the services,the glorious food and the friendly staff, all of it was magnificent. The food was better than any of the restaurants we ate out at. The chef was not only talented but she was a wonderful manager - nothing was a problem for her(or us). Thank you.

A magical place on the beach in Bali. Our fourth trip to Bali was the best simply because we stayed at this fabulous vacation villa. Arriving with two other couples we found ourselves in a magical spot with a staff that responded quickly to every request. Manager Dewa made every effort to make our stay memorable and he succeeded in every way. The guys planned a surprise ceremony to renew everyone's vows. Dewa made the planning and execution of the surprise flawless and very easy despite the long distance. From flowers to officiant, food to dancers, he and the staff did an amazing job. The chef was top notch creating any kind of cultural dish with ease. No meal was less than perfect. The butler and house staff were excellent and made sure we always had a drink in hand... We are returning ....soon.

We enjoyed a relaxing stay at Ylang-Ylang. The staff were fantastic; nothing was too much trouble. The East Coast area offers an authentic Bali experience, with stunning scenery, away from the crowds. Highly recommended.

The Villa and most of all the staff running the place, ...I.e everyone of them were simply magnificent. I'm already planning global corporate events along with many other trip back. In all the years I have been coming and staying in Bali. This has to be the best.The staff very always helpful and nothing was a bother. I had my daughters wedding there and all i can say is amazing.

We went on christmas holidays with 7 young chidren...it was almost perfect...the villa provide many diferent spaces to isolate and take some rest.the view and the beach ( very local and natural environment) are a daily entertainment...
The staff is abolutely great...profesional, warm and flexible...nice people.

The Ylang Ylang was absolutely amazing. We stayed there with all of our immediate family for our wedding and we were all over joyed with our stay. We became a bit spoiled where now I don't know if I can ever stay anywhere else! It was perfect. The grounds were breathtaking, the staff was more than attentive and kind, the rooms were so comfortable and the food was incredible! The pictures can not do this villa justice. From the moment you turn on the road leading up you feel like you are going to a royal palace, and the feeling continues throughout your stay.

Everything is perfect except the cleanness of pool. When we arrived, the pool was dirty. It took few days to clear the water by their automatic filtering system so that we could not swim for the first day.
However, all staffs were so nice and they tried to do their best for making us comfortable. The whole villa is definitely beautiful and luxury better than the website images. All meals by the chef were delicious.
All of us enjoyed so much and our vacation was perfect more than we expected! We like to go back to the villa again.
Thank you so much for all staffs to make us happy!!

I did send an email to Adya to compliment on the sensational staff at the villa , not forgetting Harry the driver we had who showed and told us so much about Bali. Our stay was memorable beacuse of these wonderful people, caring and kind. The villa I would go back tomorrow to stay in . We all loved our time there and would recommend to all. Our family loved staying at Villa Ylang Ylang. The food was outstanding, the staff was amazing (this was our second villa we stayed while in Bali so we could tell the difference) and the villa itself was gorgeous.

The staff at the villa, especially Wayan and the kitchen staff, were very lovely and helpful. Service from them was excellent - they were always on standby and always took the initiative to ask if we needed anything.
The chef's cooking was EXCELLENT! We asked for traditional balinese/ Indonesian food, and for it to be extra spicy, and we weren't disappointed! Absolutely fantastic, and the homemade sambals were to die for!!

Location
The Ylang Ylang looks right over Saba Beach just where the Petanu River enters the sea. The area is a popular remote enclave of stand-alone villas set a kilometre or so off the main Denpasar–KlungKung bypass, five kilometres east of Ketewel. Within the immediate vicinity is little except a few sleepy local houses dotted amongst the rice terraces and coconut palms. Saba, the nearest village is two kilometres further up the bypass road, whilst Sukawati, famous for its cheap local market, is a few kilometres inland on route to Ubud, the cultural and artistic heart of Bali.

About Ketewel
Surrounded by terraced rice fields, tobacco plantations and banana groves, the sprawling fishing community of Ketewel presents a picture-perfect version of Bali. Comprising a string of coastal villages, the area boasts awe-inspiring views of the ocean towards the beaches of Sanur and Nusa Dua, the islands of Lembongan, Ceningan and Penida, and the stunning mountains of east Bali.

The more adventurous can hire a guide and explore Beji Guwang’s spectacular hidden canyon in nearby Sukawati – an incredible experience which involves bouldering, climbing and wading through waist-high waters. Exotic, peaceful and untouched, Ketewel’s rural charm remains unmatched.
About Bali
Bali is Indonesia’s most popular tourist location and is considered one of Asia's premier tropical island destinations. Steeped in history and renowned for its artistic way of life, Bali is a peaceful contrast to some of the more frantic destinations Asia has to offer.
The inner peace and creative talents of the Balinese has attracted artists the world over fascinated by local dancers, silversmiths, wood carvers, potters and painters that seem to pervade throughout the island. The abundant verdant fields and surrounding sea have long supplied Bali with an easy surplus of food leaving time for life’s more artistic past times. The island offers an impressive range of leisure and lifestyle amenities including world-class golf courses, wonderful seascapes for surfing, diving and snorkelling as well as luxurious spas, chic boutiques, tropical forests, towering volcanoes and international cuisine.
Rooms
The main two-storey house has a huge vaulted ceiling, and looks down past the swimming pool and lawns to the beach. The second floor has an outstanding balcony with daybed to look down on the villa grounds and the crashing surf beyond. Within the main villa are the well-equipped – if a little dated – kitchen (not that you will ever need to go in) and a cosy entertainment room with a neat bed/sofa configuration for the whole family to lie back on and enjoy large screen-projected movies, of which there are over 100. In the atrium is a pleasant table for up to 17 diners and a rather formal seating area, both with great views over the pool and beach.
The six large bedrooms mirror each other in sets of three down either side of the pool. Nearest the beach are the two master suites with a lovely terraces facing the sea and jacuzzi plunge pools. Each has a generous bathroom with a large stone sunken bath and separate shower. These are the only bedrooms with cable TV and DVD players.
Running back towards the main house are two queen-bedded rooms which each connect to a twin room via internal sliding double doors. The queen bedrooms have a small sunken bath of stone which doubles as a shower whilst the twins have ensuite showers. There is no TV in these rooms just a simple stereo. All the bedrooms are air-conditioned.
On the lawns are two relaxation balés and a small gym complete with an infrared sauna.
