Villa Tirta Nila is located within the quiet and natural environs of Mendira Beach at the little fishing village of Sengkidu, 3km from Candisasa on Bali’s east coast. All that you will find in the neighbourhood is coconut groves, banana plantations, some other private villas and a traditional village. It is safe for swimming here and the reef immediately in front of Tirta Nila offers good snorkelling. Ten minutes’ walk up the lane are several hotels and restaurants with bars including the 4-star Candi Beach Resort & Spa; Warung Lu Putu Restaurant and Amarta Beach Seaside Restaurant – both of which are superb value-for-money; a tiny but lovely golden-sand beach between Amarta Beach Cottages and Anon Beach Hotel, and a charming gift shop selling handmade bath products. Beyond this, just before the main road, is the village temple and a huge banyan tree, a sports field and the banjar building where the Balinese village community meets.

About Candidasa
Boasting rich heritage value, the quiet seaside village of Candidasa lies close to many of Bali's most important historical landmarks and ancient palaces. This beautiful and under-developed area is set in the island’s eastern regency of Karangasem, far away from the crowds, with Mt. Agung, Bali’s most sacred and mystical volcano providing a dramatic backdrop to the scene.

Things to do in Candidasa include visits to charming restaurants and souvenir shops where you can pick up a trinket or two. You will also find a few basic mini-marts here to stock up on essentials. The 700-year-old walled village of Tenganan is nearby, where the residents practise a time-honoured lifestyle based around ritual and ceremony. The fortress-like village has become a living museum, and many of the houses also function as shops and workshops where expert craftsmen and women perform their centuries’ old skills.

The beach at Candidasa is sandy and golden, albeit narrow due to erosion. There is a beautiful beach known as Pasir Putih five kilometres to the east and snorkelling and diving off Candidasa is good with some excellent sites close to the shore, accessible by local boats. Padang Bai Harbour, the stepping off point for Lombok, is a further nine kilometres around the bay, and here you will find the Blue Lagoon, another superb snorkelling and dive site.

Tirta Nila’s living and dining room is furnished with comfy sofas and a table for ten; it has sliding floor-to-ceiling glass doors on two walls, which can be opened wide to invite the garden and the sea breezes inside or closed for air-conditioned comfort. Adjacent to the kitchen is a modern well-equipped kitchen, which guests are free to use, and hidden behind this is a full service kitchen, laundry and staff area. Also on the ground floor is a TV room furnished with a cosy sofa and equipped with air-conditioning and a 55-inch TV and Blu-ray DVD player.

The four bedrooms (two upstairs, two downstairs) are almost equal in size and facilities, which makes this villa ideal for groups of friends as well as for families. Each features sea views, a balcony or terrace, a plush king-sized bed (one of which can be converted to twin beds), and an ensuite bathroom. The upstairs master suite has the additional luxury of a bathtub, while the two downstairs suites both have the choice of two showers – an indoor rain shower or an outdoor rain shower hidden within a private garden courtyard. 

Tirta Nila’s large and gorgeous garden is bordered by palms and edged with trailing vines, frangipanis and red hibiscus. A flat lawn dotted with stepping stones borders the villa’s terraces and 15m pool, complete with its timber deck. The lush grass extends past a sandy man-made beach, which doubles as a volleyball court, to an open-sided dining pavilion with a table for ten, elevated above the waves. A relaxation bale pavilion rests at one corner of the sand, while a stone, seafront terrace stretches the full width of the property, furnished with sunbeds and umbrellas and blessed with spellbinding views of the spectacular coastline and Nusa Penida Island.
