Villa Bukit Naga is divided into three buildings: the main house, the visitors’ lodge and an annex suite – all looking over the river valley and centring on the main pool.
The imposing entrance leads into the hall of the main house, which opens to a dining and sitting area spilling out onto a huge pool terrace. Off the hall, is an entertainment room with computer, satellite TV and a huge DVD collection, a well-equipped kitchen with everything from an ice machine to a juice maker and two king bedrooms complete with marbled bathrooms, sun terraces, dressing areas and outside shower gardens. Upstairs is the grand master suite (which shares a bathroom with a study/guest bedroom with a four-poster bed ideal for children) whose highlight is the balcony overlooking the pool and valley.
The visitor's lodge consists of two king rooms (one situated up a wooden staircase), which share a lounge, a small gym and a beautiful secluded plunge pool. Each has a vast bathroom (shower room upstairs) and terraces with daybeds to enjoy the fabulous setting. The annex suite’s garden bathroom is a delight – the lush walled courtyard encloses a jacuzzi and ‘elephant’ shower. Inside are a further bath/shower, a king bedroom and a very private terrace.
To describe its rooms as generous would not really be doing Villa Bukit Naga justice – they are huge, with lofty ceilings and powerful fans and air conditioners. Rich in woods they overflow with interesting features, from the impactful art on the walls to some lovely furniture and collectibles from all over Asia. The attention to detail creates a very special experience.
Meals can be taken inside the main house or out on the terrace amongst the lush gardens. A poolside barbecue is a must. A path winding down the terraces through beautiful gardens bursting with a rich variety of plants leads to a gazebo or balé – the perfect place to enjoy the sunset over a cold beer or G&T after a strenuous game of pétanque.
