The Experience
Chic black and white leather sofas; an elegant Corian styled countertop island kitchen with cushioned leather bar stools and sleek black cabinets; a simple wood topped dining table for entertaining up to 12; the latest all weather rattan furnishings with comfortable off-white trim – it is true to say feels highly sophisticated.
The quality of the finish is outstanding with a pleasant blend of natural woods mixed with sand washed walkways, easy grey walls and modern floor to ceiling folding doors. The attention to detail of the owners is exceptional from the Samsung theatre systems and iPod players in five of the six ensuite bedrooms to the champagne buckets sunk into the countertops; from the WiFi’d Apple Mac to the raindrop showers; and from the 12-inch Sealy Posturepedic mattresses to the BOSS stereo zoned throughout the villa.
These all pale into insignificance however when compared to the real highlight of the villa – the superb panorama. Set back in the hills above Bo Phut Village, Villa Suralai offers stunning views over Bo Phut Bay to the island of Koh Phan Ngan, famous for its wild full-moon parties. Whether it’s from the 25m infinity pool or from the terraces attached to each bedroom, the private gym or from the cathedral ceilinged lounge/dining room with its wide wrap around terrace – the view is magnificent. Of course the owners have incorporated glass walled balconies throughout so as not to impede your enjoyment of the rolling hills loaded with coconut palms and the blue waters beyond.
To help you to relax and enjoy your stay Villa Suralai has four staff: the chef can turn out a wide selection of Thai and western dishes from the wet kitchen in the staff quarters (he also does the provisioning on guest account) and the villa manager doubles up as butler, guide and ‘fix it’ man to sort out spa visits, elephant rides, and beach or boat trips - assuming of course you can tear yourself away from the villa and its captivating vistas.

Highlights
The stereo system in the villa excellent as is the coffee from the Siemens coffee machine. Our recommendation – choose some of your favourite music, turn up the volume (there are no neighbours around to complain) and sit on the terrace with your feet up, coffee in hand, taking in the great view. It doesn’t get better than this.
Surprises
In many ways Villa Suralai is well set up for families but parents should note that the infinity pool does have a significant drop-off and also has no section shallower than about a metre. We also noted a number of villas under construction on the way up the hill (due for completion Nov 2012). Architecturally the villa is superb, and while there are a few small design hiccups, regular maintenance ensures everything functions as new.

Location
Access to Villa Suralai is via a turn off in Bo Phut Village. Past Bo Phut Hills Golf Club, the road winds up the hills overlooking the village for 2.5km. The villa stands near the crest of the ridge with commanding views over Bo Phut Bay, and Bang Rak. Apart from a few isolated on-going villa developments (the view is getting quite popular and so more villas are appearing on the hillside) there is little nearby, which means almost total peace and quiet. Koh Samui’s rather quaint airport is tucked just out of sight to the east well out of the flight path whilst hills laden with coconut palms surround the villa. The nearest beach, Bo Phut, is five minutes away whilst Chaweng with Big C, Tesco and Macro supermarkets is 15 minutes in one direction and Santiburi Golf Course a similar distance in the other direction.

About Bophut
In recent years Bophut has become synonymous with 'Fisherman's Village' as the once sleepy traditional Thai fishing community of wooden clapperboard houses, has morphed into an exciting and sometimes extremely busy shopping, dining and nightlife destination.
Located on the north-east coast just 10-15 minutes' drive to the international airport, Bophut is home to some of the island's leading resorts such as the Anantara and Hansar Beach while the original Fisherman's Village has been extended to incorporate a new shopping mall and outdoor market area and parking, as well as a number of chic new restaurants and bars, with fun seating on the beach and featuring nighttime entertainment such as fire eaters and attracting a young and vibrant crowd.
Fisherman's Village is also the scene of the island's biggest night market. Every Friday evening, as well as on certain holidays, literally hundreds of vendors set up shop to offer everything from Thai and international street food and snacks, to chic fashions, electronics and local souvenirs. The atmosphere is buzzing and an absolute must-visit for locals and tourists alike.
Meanwhile, the village's traditional shops offer massages, tailoring, locally produced fashions, handicrafts and much more. And the restaurant scene has become an attraction in its own right, with numerous cool cafes and bars, as well as establishments serving a huge choice of local seafood on the barbecue, Italian, Australian and American cuisine.
About Koh Samui
The third largest island in Thailand, Koh Samui is just 21km at its widest point and 25km at its longest. The hinterland consists of forested limestone hills and the shoreline is made up of countless coconut palm-fringed beaches and bays.
Traditionally a coconut plantation and fisherman's haven, in the last few years the island has grown into a major holiday destination with regular connections to Bangkok and direct flights from Hong Kong and Singapore. Despite rapid development, Samui is small enough to retain its charm and its modest size also makes it a convenient, laid back location even during busy seasons.
As well as fine beaches, Samui is known for recreation, relaxation and fine food. The blue waters of the Thai Gulf provide a wealth of possibility for water sports, while on land the island is well known for its professional and indulgent spas and health retreats. Fresh seafood is a specialty at most of Samui's restaurants, but you can also enjoy food from almost every corner of the globe thanks to the island's strong international influences.
Each beach on Samui has its own particular character and ambience. The east coast beaches of Chaweng and Lamai are busy, commercial areas with everything from beach vendors to fast food chains, while to the north, Bang Rak and Bo Phut have a more relaxed local village atmosphere. Beaches like Lipa Noi and Laem Set on the western and southern shores feel much more remote and untouched.
Koh Samui combines comfort and convenience with a sense of real escape and this has made it a popular choice for residential as well as tourist development. The island is an eclectic blend of nature and sophistication, one that draws repeat visitors every year to indulge in its tropical delights.
Rooms
Villa Suralai is dominated by the main living pavilion, a two-storey building dug into the side of the hill with spectacular views. The entrance is on the top floor where an electric gate slides open to give access to a car port. Stepping stones lead to the huge room which incorporates a casual seating area with leather sofas and a 50-inch home theatre screen; a guest kitchen fully equipped with top specification Siemens oven, microwave, coffee machine and fridge freezer that all hide away behind slick black cabinetry, and a dining table for ten. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors fold back on three sides to a wide terrace, letting the breezes drift through whilst fans in the vaulted ceiling turn lazily above. As a result there is little need for air conditioning.
On the ground floor are three identical king-bedded rooms, each with ensuite shower rooms and terraces with captivating views to be enjoyed from daybeds or chairs. All the rooms have Samsung theatre systems, satellite TV and iPod players. An adjacent three-storey pavilion houses the remaining bedrooms – two master suites and a twin bedded room. Each bedroom in this pavilion has a polished stone-washed bath, raindrop showers and views over the plantations. The master suites have king beds, folding doors to generous terraces and full home theatre set-up including 32-inch screen; whilst the twin room has satellite TV and steps down to a small garden. All six bedrooms are individually air-conditioned, have great blackout curtains and look out onto the 25m pool which, at one end, has a Thai style balé (gazebo) with daybeds and pool bar stools.
Below the swimming pool is a small well-equipped gym, storage and laundry facilities whilst, in a small pavilion by the entrance, are the staff quarters and a wet kitchen where most of the food preparation is done by the chef.

Discounts
- Discounts are sometimes available for booking early (usually 120 days and over prior to check-in). For discounted rates click on the Check Availability button and enter your dates or contact Customer Service.
Standard deposit policy

In order to have a booking confirmed you must make deposit payment as outlined in The Villa Guide Booking Terms and Conditions unless special conditions are indicated for the period you are booking. The standard deposits are:
- For rentals beginning more than 60 days after the date of your booking request - a deposit of 50% of the total rental amount is payable.
- For rentals beginning 60 days or less after the date of your booking request - the total rental amount is payable as a deposit.
Standard cancellation policy
- In the event of cancellation, penalties as outlined in The Villa Guide Booking Terms and Conditions apply unless special conditions are indicated for the period you are booking.
- It is strongly recommended that you purchase trip cancellation travel insurance.
Amendment of confirmed booking

Changes to a confirmed booking such as amendment of dates will be treated as a cancellation of the original booking and cancellation charges may apply.
Rates
- Prices may change based on the time of your booking, arrival date and length of stay. For exact rates please click on the Check Availability button and enter your dates.
- Whilst every effort is made to keep rates current. They are subject to change from time to time. If there is a rate change you will be informed before a booking is confirmed.
- Confirmed booking rates will not change.
- Rates apply to a maximum of 12 persons. Two additional persons can be accommodated at an extra charge of USD50++ per person.
Security deposit
- Upon arrival at the villa you will be required to sign a waiver of liability and a credit card authorization form which will allow for damages and any additional charges that you may incur to be charged against the card.
Check in/out
- Check in – 3.00pm, Check out - 10.00am
- Late check outs up to 6.00pm may incur a half day charge, after 6.00pm a full day may be charged.
- Every effort will be made to accommodate other check in/out times but will depend on availability.
